Accel Partners, Intel Capital, Kleiner Perkins, & Sequoia Capital Investor Map
Filters: Private active companies only, 3 Rounds of capital raised or less, Start Year in or after 2002

This is the Investor Map for the combined network of four large Investors: Accel Partners, Intel Capital, Kleiner Perkins, and Sequoia Capital. Without any filters implemented this map would be densely populated with nodes. In this example several different filters have been implemented to create a map that focuses on a specific portion of the network.
Company Filters:
Private Companies only
3 Rounds of Capital raised or less
CompanyStart Year of 2002 or later
You might be wondering why it matters what companies are filtered because we are looking at an Investor Map, and only the Investor Nodes are visible. However, remember that the links between these Investors are formed by common investments, and it is easy to understand how adding or removing companies from the network can change how the investors are connected to one another. This is true across all of the map types. Each map type is just a different projection of the network you are working with, and adding or removing nodes from the network will change all of the maps even if the nodes you added (or removed) are not visible in a particular map.
In this map the filters have been applied to allow only Private Companies that have raised 3 or less Rounds of Capital, and that were started in 2003 or later. This was done to focus the network on early stage companies that have not yet been acquired or gone public. Although this map shows that there are many relationships among these large investment firms in early stage companies, when the number of common investments is compared to the total number of investments made by these firms, it does not seem to reflect any type of special co-investment strategies.
